Legendary Vacation Club (LVC) operates as a members-only travel club with a significant presence across Mexico and the Caribbean. The club has cultivated partnerships with prestigious hotel brands including Hard Rock, Nobu, and its own Único Collection. With a portfolio that spans six hotels in Mexico—located in Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, and Cancún—and additional properties in Punta Cana, Miami, and Chicago, Legendary Vacation Club has positioned itself as a major player in the luxury vacation ownership space.

However, despite the impressive portfolio and ambitious expansion plans—including over US$800 million in new developments across Cancún, Tulum, Riviera Nayarit, and Los Cabos—the company has accumulated a substantial number of complaints from members over the years. Most concerns raised by owners revolve around misleading sales presentations, misrepresentation of membership benefits, severe difficulty canceling contracts, and a significant gap between the promises made during sales pitches and the reality of the membership experience.

One of the most recurring issues reported by consumers involves the sales presentation itself. Members frequently describe being approached at check-in by salespeople who portray themselves as hotel concierges. What begins as an offer for a "courtesy breakfast" or tour often transforms into hours of high-pressure sales tactics. One complainant detailed being "harassed for two days" before finally agreeing to listen, only to be "essentially held hostage for 2 hours" and moved from room to room with increasingly aggressive salespeople. Another reported being pressured for four hours despite repeatedly stating they were not able to join.

The cancellation process has emerged as another significant source of frustration. Members have reported that verbal promises of easy cancellation are not honored once the contract is signed. Some have been told they could cancel at any time, only to discover that cancellation comes with substantial penalties—including rescission fees of $150 or more, loss of annual fees paid, and the requirement to pay additional sums to receive a vacation certificate rather than a refund. In some cases, members who have never used any benefits have been offered only two options: cancel with no refund whatsoever, or pay more money to receive a voucher. The contract itself has been described as "not very clear regarding cancellation" with "a very vague clause". Customer service responsiveness has also drawn criticism, with members reporting difficulty reaching representatives, unreturned calls, and emails that take days to receive a response.

The membership was presented as a way to make traveling easier, but the reality has been full of limitations. Every time we try to plan a trip, we run into restrictions, dates that don’t work, or additional conditions that were never explained properly.
The biggest disappointment is that the benefits sounded much better during the sales presentation than they feel when you actually try to use them. It’s frustrating paying for access and still feeling like you have to fight for availability.

The membership sounded incredible during the presentation. Flexible vacations, exclusive booking advantages, priority access, all of it seemed worth the investment at the time. The reality has been far more frustrating. Every booking attempt turns into a cycle of unavailable dates, restrictions, and suggestions to “try again later.”
What made me finally lose confidence was comparing availability online. Regular guests could reserve rooms that members were supposedly unable to access. Customer service stays polite throughout the process, but the conversations rarely lead anywhere useful.

The sales presentation made the membership sound incredibly flexible, which is probably why the reality felt so disappointing afterward. Every booking attempt has turned into some variation of “those dates aren’t available” or “try checking again later.”
What finally made me question everything was seeing availability online for regular travelers while members were being told inventory was limited. Customer service remains polite throughout the process, but the conversations rarely lead anywhere meaningful.

We signed up because the presentation made it sound like future vacations would become easier and more flexible. Instead, every attempt to book something worthwhile has turned into a cycle of limited dates, unavailable inventory, and suggestions to “check back later.”
The biggest frustration came when I compared availability online and realized the same resorts were open to regular guests. It becomes difficult to trust the value of the membership when members seem to have fewer practical options than the public.

  • Maren LockridgeMay 16, 2026, 12:14 pm

The membership presentation sounded convincing when we attended it last year. Flexible vacations, priority booking, “exclusive access” — all of it sounded worth the investment at the time. The reality has been much different. Every attempt to book something decent turns into a negotiation around blackout dates, upgrades, or limited inventory.
What really changed my opinion was noticing how many things were technically available online to the public while members were told to wait or choose different dates. Customer service is polite, but every conversation feels rehearsed. We never leave those calls with an actual solution.
