Legendary Vacation Club (LVC) operates as a members-only travel club with a significant presence across Mexico and the Caribbean. The club has cultivated partnerships with prestigious hotel brands including Hard Rock, Nobu, and its own Único Collection. With a portfolio that spans six hotels in Mexico—located in Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, and Cancún—and additional properties in Punta Cana, Miami, and Chicago, Legendary Vacation Club has positioned itself as a major player in the luxury vacation ownership space.

However, despite the impressive portfolio and ambitious expansion plans—including over US$800 million in new developments across Cancún, Tulum, Riviera Nayarit, and Los Cabos—the company has accumulated a substantial number of complaints from members over the years. Most concerns raised by owners revolve around misleading sales presentations, misrepresentation of membership benefits, severe difficulty canceling contracts, and a significant gap between the promises made during sales pitches and the reality of the membership experience.

One of the most recurring issues reported by consumers involves the sales presentation itself. Members frequently describe being approached at check-in by salespeople who portray themselves as hotel concierges. What begins as an offer for a "courtesy breakfast" or tour often transforms into hours of high-pressure sales tactics. One complainant detailed being "harassed for two days" before finally agreeing to listen, only to be "essentially held hostage for 2 hours" and moved from room to room with increasingly aggressive salespeople. Another reported being pressured for four hours despite repeatedly stating they were not able to join.

The cancellation process has emerged as another significant source of frustration. Members have reported that verbal promises of easy cancellation are not honored once the contract is signed. Some have been told they could cancel at any time, only to discover that cancellation comes with substantial penalties—including rescission fees of $150 or more, loss of annual fees paid, and the requirement to pay additional sums to receive a vacation certificate rather than a refund. In some cases, members who have never used any benefits have been offered only two options: cancel with no refund whatsoever, or pay more money to receive a voucher. The contract itself has been described as "not very clear regarding cancellation" with "a very vague clause". Customer service responsiveness has also drawn criticism, with members reporting difficulty reaching representatives, unreturned calls, and emails that take days to receive a response.

After several years as a member, I've realized the hardest part isn't paying the annual costs—it's trying to make the membership fit around real life. School schedules, work vacations, and family commitments don't always line up with the limited availability we keep running into.
When we first signed, it sounded like we'd finally have stress-free vacations planned years in advance. Instead, every reservation feels like another negotiation where we have to lower our expectations a little more.

I don't regret wanting to invest in better vacations for my family, but I do regret believing everything would work as smoothly as it was presented. Every year seems to bring another surprise—whether it's limited inventory, booking restrictions, or policies that somehow weren't memorable during the sales presentation.
After a while, you begin planning trips around the membership instead of letting the membership support your travel plans. That wasn't the balance we expected when we signed.

  • Owen BlackridgeJuly 9, 2026, 2:23 pm

When we bought into Legendary Hard Rock, we honestly believed we'd be traveling more often. Instead, we've spent years trying to make the membership fit around restrictions that never seemed important during the presentation. The flexibility we were promised has been much harder to find in practice.
I've reached the point where planning a vacation through the membership creates more stress than excitement. Every reservation starts with wondering what obstacle is going to appear this time instead of looking forward to the trip itself.

  • Calvin MerriweatherJuly 1, 2026, 1:40 pm

The sales pitch focused heavily on freedom and flexibility, but our experience as members has been the exact opposite. We plan months in advance, only to be told that the most desirable weeks are unavailable unless we upgrade or accept alternatives we never wanted.
The hardest part is explaining to friends why we invested in something that often gives us fewer options than simply booking independently. It feels like paying a premium for a complicated system instead of paying for convenience.

  • Warren HollisJune 26, 2026, 2:54 pm

When we signed up, the membership was described as a way to make future vacations easier. Instead, trying to actually use it has involved limited availability, restrictions, and a lot of uncertainty about what benefits are truly included.
The biggest disappointment is realizing that the experience after purchasing doesn’t feel like the one that was described during the presentation. The excitement wears off when every reservation requires extra effort.

  • Beatriz LandaJune 24, 2026, 5:19 pm

  • Vincent MercerJune 19, 2026, 3:28 pm

The membership sounded like a great way to secure better vacations, but actually using it has been far more restrictive than expected. The dates we wanted were rarely available, and every option seemed to come with another condition attached.
The most frustrating part is that the presentation created a very different impression. After becoming a member, you start discovering limitations that weren’t made clear when you were deciding whether to sign.
