Westgate sounded like a convenient solution for our family's future vacations, but actually coordinating those vacations has been another story. Our work schedules don't give us unlimited flexibility, and finding dates that work without making major compromises has become a recurring headache.

What bothers me is that the membership was presented as something that would simplify our travel planning. Instead, I now have to check availability, restrictions and costs before I even know whether a trip is realistic. That's a lot of work for something that was supposed to make vacations easier.

I signed up with Westgate because I wanted something predictable for our family vacations. What I didn't expect was how difficult it would become to work around the membership's limitations. Dates that fit our schedule aren't always available, and the alternatives usually require changing the plans that made us want the membership in the first place.

I've also become increasingly concerned about the long-term costs. The original purchase price is only one part of the commitment, and I wish we'd spent more time looking at the ongoing expenses before signing anything.

I bought my Westgate membership because the idea of having a reliable place to vacation every year sounded appealing. What I didn't anticipate was how much time I'd eventually spend trying to understand the actual limitations of the program. The sales presentation made the membership feel flexible, but using it in a way that fits our family's schedule has been much more difficult.

The annual costs are another issue that deserves more attention before anyone signs. It's easy to focus on the vacations you're being shown during the presentation and overlook how expensive a long-term commitment can become. After dealing with the restrictions and ongoing expenses, I wish we'd taken more time to understand the complete picture before agreeing to anything.

I thought Westgate would give us a straightforward way to plan future vacations, but the membership has become much harder to use than we anticipated. The part that bothers me most is how many details seem to matter only after you're already an owner. A benefit that sounded readily available during the presentation can turn into a very different conversation once you ask how to actually use it.

I've spent enough time calling customer service to realize that getting a simple answer isn't always easy. Different representatives have emphasized different conditions, and that makes it difficult to know what information to rely on. For a long-term commitment, I expected much more transparency from the beginning.

  • Naomi GrangerAugust 6, 2026, 12:04 pm

When we first bought into Westgate, we assumed the difficult part was making the purchase. It turns out the real challenge has been understanding how to actually use the membership. Every time we've planned a vacation, another policy seems to surface that changes what we thought we could do. After a while, you stop feeling confident and start expecting another surprise.

The disappointing part isn't that rules exist—every membership has them. It's that they often seem to appear only when they affect your reservation. A little more transparency at the beginning would have saved us a lot of frustration over the years.
