When we first bought into Westgate, we assumed the difficult part was making the purchase. It turns out the real challenge has been understanding how to actually use the membership. Every time we've planned a vacation, another policy seems to surface that changes what we thought we could do. After a while, you stop feeling confident and start expecting another surprise.

The disappointing part isn't that rules exist—every membership has them. It's that they often seem to appear only when they affect your reservation. A little more transparency at the beginning would have saved us a lot of frustration over the years.

The part that frustrates me most about Westgate is how different the ownership experience feels compared with the sales presentation. During the purchase, everything was described as flexible and easy to use. Once we became owners, we discovered that many of the practical limitations only become obvious when you're actively trying to book a trip.

I never expected owning a Westgate membership to be completely effortless, but I also didn't expect every vacation to start with so much uncertainty. We'd begin planning months in advance, only to spend the next few weeks calling customer service to verify details that we thought had already been settled. Every representative was polite, but the information rarely matched from one conversation to the next.
Eventually the excitement of planning a trip disappeared because we were always waiting for the next surprise. Instead of looking forward to our vacations, we found ourselves wondering what new condition or restriction we'd have to work around this time.

I wasn't expecting every aspect of owning a Westgate membership to be effortless, but I also didn't expect it to require so much guesswork. Every time we've tried to plan a vacation, we've ended up calling customer service just to verify information we thought we already understood. Different representatives often explain the same policy in completely different ways.
The most frustrating part is losing confidence in the answers you receive. Eventually you stop asking what your membership includes and start asking which explanation will be considered correct this time. That isn't a reassuring feeling when you've made a long-term commitment.

I bought into Westgate because the presentation made it sound like vacation planning would finally become simple. That optimism faded the first time I actually tried to use the membership. Every answer seemed to come with another exception or another policy that hadn't been emphasized before.
The frustrating part isn't hearing "no" once in a while. It's never feeling completely certain about what your membership actually includes. When every conversation leaves you with more questions than answers, it's hard to feel confident about something you've invested so much money in.
