When I went to Mexico in November I purchased a timeshare El Cid Recreaton Club. I was in a cruise and did this in a couple of hours due to time. I felt pressured and should not have signed the contract. They said I could sell if I did not like the plan. They sent me a bill and I paid half of the timeshare on the credit card  they sent me . Then they sent me a bill for $100, an assessment charge which I paid, I then received a 3rd bill for maintenance fees for 2010 . When I called and said I did not purchase until Nov and did not own the entire year  they said I had to pay it as it would be maintenance from 2010 until Oct 2011. I told them I wanted to get rid of the timeshare and they said I cannot. I told them that the salesman said I could sell and they said this is not so? This was purchased in Nov 2010 - I was told that in Mexico they did not have a rescision of contract; however on the internet there have been other complaints about El Cid indicating that there is indeed 5 days to rescind a contract and I was never told about this.

My wife and I  purchased a timeshare at El Cid while on vacation . Now that I am trying to book a holiday I am discovering all the lies we were told. First off, they promised us that they were able to get us huge discounts on airfare. They showed us a page of airfare prices way lower then standard prices. Now, they are telling me that they do nothing with airfare, I have to find my own. At the meeting I stated that often airfare is more expensive then a package deal and was told, Not with the discounts we can get you. Next, they told us that some resorts were all inclusive, and there were no addition fees for them, just redeeming your points. Now, I need to pay $75 per person per day in AI fees. This works out to more then I can book the exact same room for on my own. They also stated that there were no annual fees, yet now I am being told that there is a usage fee that must be paid each year to use the holiday package. It seems that everything they told us was a lie.

I have owned timeshare at El Cid Resorts for many years. Some of it has been good, but recently I increased my points usage with the promise of renting several weeks a year for $6,000.00 US Dls a week. It was a lie, the company they were registering my weeks with never recieved the forms or fee to register it with them. Now if I want to register my weeks for rental the Phoneix Travel Co. wants about a $800.00 US Dls in fees paid up front. I think I would never recieve any rental income.

Looks like we got caught in an El Cid vacations Club scam, I guess now that the trade-in of my previous timeshare and rent of next year's El Cid is all fraudulent, signed documents notwithstanding. I haven't paid my credit card bill, it's not due yet, is there any reason to believe that we can dispute the charge?

Timeshare was purchased from El Cid on Feb. 20, 2011 for 35,000.00. Already paid over 15,000,00 on my mastercard. They supposedly have a buyer for my Velas Vallarta membership . So far they have had me pay transfer fees of $6270.00 USD to a bank in Mexico and now have come up with the need for me to pay $8,545.00 USD in an IVA tax. Are these legitimate or am I being scammed?
