VELAS VALLARTA Timeshare COMPLAINTS
  Legal Name:
Desarrollos Turisticos de la Costa S.A. de C.V., Promotora Turistica Las Velas S.A. de C
  Rental Companies:
Sierra Rentals and Resales
Hotel Representatives:
Cheryl Manaker, Monica Dellagrave

Common Complaints:

  • Claim to sell fractional ownerships instead of timeshares, but in reality they are not deeded properties, just contracts for timeshare weeks.
  • Salesperson claims that all travel expenses would be a tax write off against the property ownership because it is a fractional ownership.
  • Salesperson claims that Sierra will rent out their timeshare weeks for a profit. Sierra charges a listing fee, but then never rents the weeks, and they stop answering the phone.
  • Many clients have received calls from Sierra about a year after their purchase stating that they have a buyer for their Velas Vallarta property. They are told that they just need to pay for the title search and taxes into an escrow account and then they money from the buyer will be released to the seller. The seller wires the money to the escrow company, and then never hears from them again.
  • Offer an annuity program where clients are promised to get their full investment back after 25 years if they pay an extra 5-7% of the purchase price to Lloydshare, the third party company that organizes the annuity.

I bought this blasted thing in 2001 originally and then was suckered into an upgrade thru hard sales and pressure tactics. I immediately regretted and presented the sales person w a letter to reverse it but he refused to accept the letter. That was all in 2010. After trying to pursue several avenues thru Mexican and US authorities I got nowhere. BBB wouldn't even lower their rating after this blatant fraud. Eventually I decided to play their game. I just stopped paying their outrageous maintenance fee. The annuity is fraud. There was NO annuity. Just another dead end and loss of $1000. They used some company name that didn't know who they were and had nothing to do with them. Great resort. Tons of fraud. If you want out of your contract, just don't pay them anymore. They sent a collection agency after me, but there was nothing else they could do. After all, if the law protects them because the contract was signed in Mexico, then it protects us too. I hope that place goes down in flames.

I paid $5000.00 down on my timeshare with Velas Vallarta. After being harassed by calls I made two payments of $482.00 by credit card and paid one lump sum of $19,000.00 to pay it off. The payments that were paid by credit card were never posted to my timeshare account. After the lump sum payment paying off the contract and avoiding the interest the company added $482.00 to my $0.00 balance account every month since paying off the balance. They now state I owe thousands that is past due. They are threatening me with collections and trying to extort me. They wouldn't even allow me to use the weeks I'm due without paying an additional $2,700.00 maintenance fee. The whole set up from the airport to the presentation was a scam. Even after paying off the whole balance which was supposed to be financed for 19 years, I am still being harassed. I have paid nearly $30,000.00 to Velas Vallarta Group and they are threatening to sue me. We've never used the timeshare, not even once. It's clear we never will. We also will not travel to Mexico again. I need assistance recouping my stolen money. Who should I contact to file a lawsuit. Articles online state they are sanctioned by the USA government and controlled by cartels so it may be impossible to find a Mexican lawyer who will even help sue them. I need my money back. I need out to of this contract asap. Please help!

We bought a package with velas Vallarta in October 2015. With the contract including that we were going to receive $112k for our 5 timeshare. We have waited for more that the 300 days they required and the payment was not made on the stipulated date. Perhaps those of us with similar experiences should work in a class lawsuit together.

Our timeshare unit in Casa Velas was new and very nice, but the monthly rates were absolutely hard to keep with. We noticed every year the rates are higher so we want to cancel it. They lied to us completely since they were supposed to help us get rid of it in the first 3 years, and now they are taking back what they said, so unprofessional and childish of them.

I had a total rip off experience in Velas Vallarta resort when I bought a timeshare that was supposed to be rented out. According to them, I would be seeing from 2k to 4k in my account every year. It´s been 4 years and to this day I check and my account its in zeros besides, they are pushing me to pay maintenance charges for a unit that has not event been rentet out

WE BOUGHT OUR TIMESHARE WITH FORCE SALE AND LIES IN 2012. Since then we never use it once, they increase maintenance fee 5% every year, I would like to know how I can give the deed back ? if there any way all the people who bought Velas vallarta timeshare can get together to to discuss what we should do? Facebook or Whatsapp

Please help. We paid in full for a groupo vellas "property" in 2014 (Over $30,000.00 USD). This was a TOTAL scam and we have stopped paying annual "membership fees" because I can no longer travel. We spent all of our savings on this "purchase" and desperately need to recover what has turned out to be a nightmare of an "investment". HELP!!!

Big mistake i ever made, timeshare field is a risky thing, my family and me were involved in a timeshare presentation scam because their sales people told us a lot of benefits if we purchase a membership, since 3 years of that and nothing
