First, I tried to get my down payment back without success. I spent hundreds of dollars in calls to the customer service of the resort. I contacted the PROFECO, the consulate and again without success! Can you help me?
My family and I went on a cruise to Mexico last summer. After one of our excursions was cancelled, we were offered the 'free' food, use of pool, etc. for a 90 minute pitch. Having been unable to vacation as a family in a 'normal' capacity due to my disabled son (who passed away nearly 3 years before our trip...this was our first vacation without him) we were elated at the prospect of more vacations...and free!! Upon arriving home and looking on the REAL internet site, we discovered this must be a scam. Stopped payments immediately.
Now, I have a $15, 000.00 collection account on my credit report from these theif liars!
We have been robbed too. there is no other expression for it. we paid 4000.-- us$ and will not pay another penny even if I have to relocate or do whatever it takes so they won't find me. after the 5 day period is up it seems there is little we can do. My credit card company would have reversed the charges if I could have shown to them that I cancelled within the 5 days. depending how much of an annoyance you can be for them some people appear to have been succesful to cancel but then they are not allowed to talk about it anymore. So I have no idea if they lost their original deposit in full or got some back.
I have a hard tiime to cancel a contract with EL CID at Cozumel . I emailed and faxed within time allowed to cancel my contract . They really try to ignore . They charge my creidit card I have to to put a pendiing case to stop them . Finally I have to cancel my credit card to stop them from charging .
El Cid resorts are VERY NICE ... it's the timeshare salespeople that are aggressive in their practices and you can't take everything they say as a guarantee or promise.
My advice is to stay away, far far away from El Cid and their sales people. Its nothing but a scam to get your cash.
We came to Cozumel island, Mexico for a vacation. At the airport we were offered a free car rental valued at $500 for “visiting a new Hotel El Cid in Puerto Morelos, Mexico”. We were told that this is a new hotel, and they want us to check it out, so we will stay there in the future. There was no mentioning of timeshares or timepoints during the free car rental offer. When we visited the hotel we were given a presentation about timepoints, hotel tour and an offer to sing a contract. We were not well prepared for the offer and did not even have reading glasses to read it carefully. The verbal offer looked good and we signed the contract and paid a down payment of $8000. After returning back from the vacation to USA, we had read the contract closely to find many differences between the verbal offer given to us.
We got scammed out of $27,000. Everything sounded good in the beginning. Not knowing that they had misrepresented their form to us, tricking us into signing something we don't know about.
All the fraudulent statements and actions, misrepresentation, and deceptions were part of their grand scheme to get us to purchase a vacation membership.
I am very frustrated because the way El Cid has treated my husband and me; we bought a timeshare with them. And now we want to get out.
I purchased a timeshare at el cid because they told me they were able to sell my old timeshare which at the time was a more expensive timeshare at velas i ended up buying at el cid for a really cheap price, the problem is that they didn´t sell my time share instead i now own 2 timeshares.
