Vacationers should be aware of timeshare scams, especially in Mexico, where the timeshare offer is remarkably high.
We highly recommend checking out the hotel reviews and rates before staying there, or before thinking about buying a timeshare at a certain resort.
This article was written to protect others from the fraudulent sales tactics used by the Krystal timeshare sales staff.
Krystal Resorts
Krystal Hotels & Resorts were part of the NH hotel franchise, for that reason, they were known as NH Krystal, but due to the bad reputation the Company was gaining under this name, the “NH” was removed, and the Company was subsequently simply known as “Krystal Hotels & Resorts”.
The pictures shown on the website are very impressive, and they claim to offer top quality service and a pleasurable experience. Krystal has 4 different locations:
- Krystal International Cancun
- Krystal International Puerto Vallarta
- Krystal Ixtapa
- Krystal Business, Ciudad Juárez
They say you can take the dog out of the junkyard, but you can't take the junkyard out of the dog.
Despite the fact that the name of the company was changed, and some reshuffles were made, the resort still has many bad reviews and poor ratings on TripAdvisor.
Most complaints are about their insistent and persuasive timeshare sales staff.
Krystal Timeshare and The big scam operation
According to PROFECO (the Consumer’s Protection Agency in Mexico), Timeshares are the Industry they receive the most complaints about, and Krystal is one of the most problematic resorts, because the Company doesn’t respect the timeshare regulations established in Mexico.
They have a club called KIVAC (Krystal International Vacation Club). On their website, they claim to be one of the best-known and most loved resorts in Mexico, despite all the complaints filed against them.
The scam works just the same as other timeshare scam operations and is very similar to the tactics used by Mayan Palace.
The sales staff invites you to a 90-minute “sales presentation”, promising gifts and cash, but without telling you that the real purpose of the invitation is to take you to a timeshare presentation, which is strictly forbidden by Mexican law.
The presentations are high-pressure and end up lasting over 3 hours. Regardless of how many times you say “No”, they will persistently insist until you sign the paper.
Many decently intelligent people have fallen victim to this scam.
As a result of this operation, many Krystal timeshare owners are not happy with their purchase.
For those who decide not to pay the high maintenance fees anymore, Krystal International Vacation Club has an agreement with a collections agency called Concord Servicing Corporation.
Common complaints
Complaints against the Krystal timeshare scam operations are countless, but we will mention the ones that are more common:

I would never buy one. They don’t seem like a good investment at all.
Time shares have never made sense to me, even when I was younger. Why pay that much money for one week? And who can plan THAT far ahead? You are sharing that space with 52 other people essentially and you are all paying like you own it? Obvious scam!
ES UNA COMPAÑIA MUY MALA Y FRAUDULENTA PROMETEN LAS PERLAS DE LA LUNA Y NO LAS CUMPLEN Y NI SE PREOCUPAN EN CUMPLIRLAS
They don't stop until they get all the money they can. Is a terrible scam this resort.
Just yesterday we were getting out of some villas in Mazatlan, with whom we had booked, trying to enjoy the last hours they approached us to invite a breakfast, a 90-minute talk lasted nearly three hours! The manager was forcing us to buy a timeshare! According were $ 103,000.00 pesos than which we had to leave half but as my wife and I did not want he told us that with 1000 pesos we could make the contract, so insistently that I got desesperate, besides the guy painted it us as "business of our lives " thing sounded as a joke! Be careful and not be wrapped by this type of people who are not rude but they offer a breakfast that cost 30 pesos and later you have to pay for almost half a million dollars for a virtual property!
