Timeshares are one of the best-selling products in the hospitality industry. There are thousands of units available and millions of people have bought one.
However, timeshares have hardly been criticized due to the high-pressure tactics that are used by the salespeople to sell the properties.
To improve their reputation, many timeshare companies, along with some travel agencies, have launched in the market numerous timeshare deals and vacation packages in order to attract new prospect buyers.
Timeshare Deals
Timeshares deals are cheap travel offers and vacation packages (sometimes even for free), that usually go from 2 to 5 days. What makes these deals attractive are the prices, which are way lower than the ones from the competition.
These types of promotions always pop up when looking on the internet for cheap vacations and travel discounts, but they’re not only on the internet, just turn on the television, check your mailbox and your email address, and you’ll almost certainly find more of them.
Last Minute Timeshare Deal!
You probably have heard of these sorts of timeshare promotions before. Why would a timeshare resort give you a free weekend in a wonderful destination for free, or for a very low price? The answer is simple: because there will be some strings attached.
That means that you will have to sit through one of their timeshare presentations, and their main goal is to get you to buy a timeshare ownership.
These cheap vacations and free weekends aren’t always a bad deal, but before going to one of them, we suggest you to follow the following tips:
- Trust your gut. If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- Do not get too comfortable. The timeshare salespeople may be very nice and friendly, but remember that they’re just doing their job, and their job is to get you to sign a timeshare contract.
- Do an internet research on the company before embarking on the promotion, search for complaints and cases of fraud. Remember, Google is your friend.
- Do not accept any alcoholic beverages during the presentation. You need to listen to the sales pitch with seriousness.
- Ask for everything in writing. The promises might sound very tempting, but are they for real?
Five Signs that Spell S-C-AM
Timeshare deals are not always legit. These are some signs that spell scam on a promotion:
- “Fees in advance”: Lots of companies claim they will give you a free vacation… after you give them an upfront fee. Most of these companies disappear once you send them the money.
- “Special offer”: Most times, the word “offer” means that many extra fees will be charged
- “Subject to availability”: Surprise! There is no availability at any of the hotels that you want to stay at, and there are many other restrictions in order to get the deal done.
- “Popular hotel”: They claim you will get to stay at a “popular hotel,” but they do not reveal the name of the company
- “You have won a free vacation”: Did you actually enter a contest? Almost 100% of these notifications are scams, since most of them do not include any information about the companies behind the deal.
Gee, I Got Caught!
There is nothing to be embarrassed about when you become a victim of these sorts of timeshare scams.
Many people have fallen for these timeshare deals, but the good news is that there’s a way out in case you end up buying a timeshare.
However, it is still very important to do some internet research on the company before making any kind of deal with it.

Timeshare vacation packages: Another advertising hook used by the timeshare companies
I just went trough a presentation in Mexico and they start you out with one person, then give you to the closer, then the super closer. At the end my wife said the super closer was really scary and made her feel extremely guilty. Its hard to pass up the All-Inclusive package though…my tip..Don’t Ask Questions!!!
I came across your website, i think your site is interesting, keep us posting.
Hello everyone. I have been extremely stressed out regarding this timeshare. My husband and I took out the timeshare in May 2013 and we felt very pressured and now very dumb. We are paying and an outrageous amount of money a month to keep the timeshare. Then in September we went and stayed at my father-in-laws timeshare and got suckered into a owners meeting we thought it was just going to be about updates well boy were we wrong. The sales guy said lets go over your contract and said we need to get your contract refinanced and we thought It was a good idea because it was so expensive well come to find out we UPGRADED!!! We ended up taken out another loan when the whole time we thought we were refinancing on the one and only loan we had with them. I have been freaking out because I am pregnant with twins and could end up losing my job and have no way of paying for this crap we should of never done in the first place. I feel like the sales guy completely lied to us and has ruined our lives I just cant believe the whole time we thought we were refinancing when I called they said there was NO SUCH THING!!! What happens if I stop paying completely will they sue us and garnish my husbands wages?? anyone ever been through this and just stopped paying. I can take the hit on my credit. I much rather sacrifice my credit for my kids so I can keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. HELP!
YES! Now we are being bombarded by all this false advertising, and now we should know that there is nothing but a scam!!
I was thinking about attending a meeting this week. I can not afford nor am interested in making a purchase, but still felt like I should go for the prize I have alledgedly won. I am still skeptical and since it has been a few months and you still have not recieved your prize, it makes me feel even more skeptical.
In my experience of attending several timeshare promotions, people don't need to "assume" that the timeshare will go up in value as you state-they are told that by the salesperson.
I don't own a timeshare but I went to a sales appointment to get the free gift, and listened to the whole talk and at the end, they said the interest rate was 15%!! And we have perfect credit. It would have to be a pretty spectacular investment to make it worth it to BORROW MONEY to invest, especially at that interest rate. Maybe it would be worth it if you enjoyed the facilities that much. I don't travel to watch a big TV in my room and hang out in a pool or a weight room though - I can stay home and go to the gym for a lot less.
This article just proves that "it was very good to be true". Unfortunately, when it comes to timeshares, always be so.
