Who are their salespeople?
The salespeople are often used as a scapegoats for the timeshare scam. Customers will complain to the resort that they were offered many fraudulent promises that didn’t come true.
The resort will often reply that the salesperson has been fired or has left the organization, and the timeshare company cannot be held responsible for that individual’s actions.
In reality, the is sales staff are carefully trained by the managers of the resort. As such, they are a reflection of the timeshare resort’s ethics.
If a salesperson is lying to the timeshare purchasers, this is not just the fault of that individual.
Often, the salespeople are trained to represent the timeshare in a fraudulent manner in order to meet their sales quotas.
If their sales are slow in a particular month, the salespeople will be asked by managers to make false verbal promises of financial opportunities to help them reach their goals.
Consequently, the timeshare ratings can be affected by the salespeople that are working, but are normally a reflection of a larger ethical problem within the timeshare resort’s administration.
Are they referring clients to fraudulent rental, resale or escrow agencies?
Ethical companies normally only refer other ethical third-party companies to their clients. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true.
Victims of timeshare scams are often referred by the timeshare resort to unethical rental, resale or trading companies that scam the clients for upfront listing fees.
The resorts often work in tandem with these third-party agencies.
The rental or resale agents will tell clients that they have renters or buyers, but the clients have to pay their maintenance fees before they can be processed.
The clients have no intention of paying the maintenance fee if it is not used. In the end, the property does not rent or sell, but the third-party agency has ensured that the timeshare resort receives their annual maintenance fee.
When the client complains to the resort about the outside agency, the resort says that they are not affiliated companies and cannot control their actions.
This lack of response and unethical referral is another reason why timeshare resorts receive negative ratings.
Is the resort overselling the property?
A resort’s timeshare rating can be severely affected by the availability of reservations. If a timeshare owner is not able to book their timeshare weeks, this can cause a lot of frustration and regret over their timeshare purchase.
Many timeshare scam companies oversell their properties because they make more money on the sale of the timeshare and the yearly maintenance fees.
How does the resort treat their existing timeshare owners?
The timeshare ratings for each company depend highly on the customer service provided to the timeshare owners.
If their clients have a problem, whether it is regarding a lie told by the sales rep, or just a simple issue with their room or reservation, they expect high-quality customer service.
Many of the timeshare resorts are luxury properties that attract clients who demand excellent customer service.
When the timeshare resort ignores their concerns, refuses to answer their calls or emails, or does not provide English-speaking staff, the client deservedly becomes frustrated.
Typically, when people have complaints, they will share them with other existing and potential clients on review sites and complaints boards.
If there are few complaints, this is a good sign that the company is not a scam.
The timeshare ratings are a clear indication of whether the company is a reputable firm with good customer service.

The sales people are trained on hitting every possible emotion impact. I sat on one and remember vividly entering the demonstration suite all clean and sparkly from the tiles to the glassware, then the sideroom simulating a typical hotel, bland, lights darkened some with the salesperson verbally painting a picture of is this what you want or this and turns with a wave of the hand walking back out into the sparkly room, this could be your families experience.
We just bought at an all inclusive resort and they told us that our weeks would rent for a sizeable amount of money. It’s not something we were depending on but definately something that made the purchase sound like a good overall idea. What do you think our chances are of renting the all inclusive weeks?
Unfortunately, timeshare sales in Mexico are in its majority a huge scam. The OPC, the one on the street inviting you makes $250-$350 per couple...so be sure he tells you any lie there is. Timeshare sales people are rotating from place to place and mostly alcoholics that look for their 8% comission. We were surprised how they work, like sharks, and some are really good showing numbers, benefits, etc...If i did not know, i probably would have bought. Be careful and NEVER make a decision the same day!! They love this, just tell them that you need to think about and they will throw in all they have..that is the sign that someting is not quite right...
Timeshares are, and always have been a a legal scam.
A single week for a units generally sell for 10s of thousands. I've seen them over $65000
But let's take an average sale price of $25,000- Multiply that by 52 weeks in a year, and they are are basically selling 1 bedroom apartments for 1.3 million dollars each.
Then, add to that they charged each of the 52 owners $700 , or more, a year in maintencance fees.
That's another $36,000 per unit every year to the Corporation.
Given the obscene numbers at play here, anybody that didn't see this coming is a fool.
I was mislead by a timeshare sales person and now own something I never intended to buy. I need help getting out of the contract.
We are trying to fight for our cancellation and refund. We canceled on day 5 but they are telling us they are not subject to Mexican laws (we were in Puerto Vallarta) BUT they are telling us to get a Mexican lawyer. Which is odd.
Do they have to abide by Mexican laws when they are “based” out of either Anguilla or the Dominican Republic? Credit Card charges came from Florida.
I bought and timeshare about 8 years ago and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I still have it and can’t sell it but I pay $908 in fees every year. Stay far away from them.
