El Cid is a beautiful resort with locations in Mazatlan, Cancun and Cozumel.
Its legal name is El Cid Vacation Club S.A. de C.V., but unfortunately, El Cid Vacations Club has become one of the biggest timeshare scams in Mexico.
At El Cid Resort’s timeshare presentation, vacationers are offered an El Cid timeshare points-for-sale package, given that they work with two rental companies: Phoenix Vacation Property Management and Platinum Exchange Services Corp.
El Cid has gained a very bad reputation in timeshare matters, and there are a lot of complaints on several websites like Ripoff Report, Complaints Board, Red Week, etc.
The Top 10 Complaints About El Cid Timeshare
1. At the timeshare presentation, salespeople offer potential clients false promises of discounts on airfares, cruises, car rentals, etc.
2. Timeshare sales tactics are hard-core and very long-lasting. Salespeople are well-trained to tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign their contract.
3. Maintenance fees and assessment fees increase very constantly, and most timeshare owners cannot afford their timeshare properties anymore.
4. A Salesperson doesn’t let their buyers know that they have 5-day cooling-off periods if they want to cancel.
5. At the sales presentation, salespeople tell buyers they will not pay an annuity, but this is a lie.
6. Salespeople claim that timeshare points have more value than they actually do for exchange purposes.
7. Salespeople tell the clients they will receive their full contract on a CD delivered to their home address. They don’t receive a full copy to review and decide if they want to cancel within the 5-day rescission period.
8. El Cid offers to resell a previously owned timeshare or take it over in trade. This never happens.
9. El Cid stated that points never expire. But when you try to book, you are never able to do it; you have to make your reservation 1 year before, and it is not sure that you are able to do it.
10. They do not respond, and the people on the phone have very poor customer service.

I'd like to know if there is a easy way to sell a timeshare?
I, like many others that have bought a timeshare find that it is not what i thought it would be, and it is just creating a financial burden on me.
I purchased this time share about 1 year ago, and haven't really used it because i don't seem to find what im looking for through the exchange market.
any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I just sat through the Wyndham sales pitch in Mazatlan. It was pretty high pressure and VERY misleading and skewed in presentation. The salesman turned rude as soon as I asked the first couple of questions - his attitude seemed to be incredulous that I would question anything within the program. He went on to tell me that he made over 500 last year selling these things - to me, that just said the commissions were disproportionately high. I asked for a copy of the offer in writing, so that I could review it and give it further consideration. They flat out refused to give me a copy of the offer - this sent up a HUGE red flag in my mind.
Take advantage of the "free stuff" if you have 3+ hours to waste (don't believe the 90 minutes they tell you). But be very wary of closing the deal ... do your research and, in my opinion, you will be far better off without the program.
Can anyone help me with specific suggestions? During an otherwise great vacation at the el Cid, I fell victim to a lying sales person and purchased a "vacation club" membership. I only realized I was lied to after the 5-day window. I only did this a few weeks ago. I've since spoken to someone from sales who tried to lower the price a little, but refused to give me a refund. I've paid a few thousand on a credit card, signed an agreement to trade in a timeshare, and signed an agreement to pay a few thousand more. How do I cancel all of this? I'll be able to dispute the charge on my credit card, but I don't know what would happen with the timeshare I already have, and I don't want to deal with collectors and credit issues. I just emailed customer service, as other posters have suggested. I will check Profeco and the FTC, too. Should I just email them or are the complaint forms?
I went to a "1 hr" demonstration in Cancun and it went 4.5 hrs. I ate and drank and got a cool tour but it ate up my whole morning. I got two free jetski rentals for an hour so I guess it was worth it.
Anyone heard of the word NO. Also, why would anyone sit in any place for a free 20.00 dinner?
Everything was fine the first few months, but after having a nasty fight with a manager there , I were looking forward to dont ecommending to anyone this resort , this person wanted to charge us some extra fees do not even use in our stay, we took out a we had signed contract according to when it was not even truth, neither near , i dont know what happen with this kind of persons..
They got me too. I actually thought we had a decent price, and wanted the deal to work. But they lied about everything. We couldn't get reservations 9 months in advance. Our "VIP week" couldn't be booked at all. We couldn't use the 2 weeks concurrently (travel w/family).
they promised me that they would rent my weeks and the timeshare was going to pay by itself!! everything sounds perfect, i know! but it's been 3 years since they told me that, and nothing happens yet, i need your help to cancel it, because i can't wait anymore
My husband and i have 2 years trying to cancel our timeshare. We have sent two emails and one letter. We are sending another certified letter today. We are also disputing the payments made via credit card. If anyone knows of anything else we can do, we sure would appreciate it.
