How to get out of a timeshare?

It is a fact that a big number of timeshare owners feel desperate to get out of their timeshare purchase.

This might be difficult, but is not impossible. There are many solutions to get out of a timeshare, not all are good options, but these are the most common:

Sell your timeshare

Most timeshare owners look to sell the timeshare first, as a way to recoup some of their money. But, this is not a good option at all because timeshare resale market is so poor, and you can find timeshares on eBay even for pennies.

There are over 500 timeshare units on the resale market. That’s why sell a timeshare is the most difficult solution.

Donate your timeshare

The timeshare donation to charity is also difficult to accomplish; there are no charity organizations that will take your timeshare property, and this is because the value of a timeshare is almost zero. Also, these organizations don’t want to carry with the timeshare maintenance fees.

Rent your timeshare

Timeshare rentals most of the time are another timeshare scam. There are several timeshare rental companies that promise to rent your timeshare weeks, but they ask you for an upfront fee to list your timeshare.

Transfer your timeshare

A timeshare transfer is a very difficult process too. You will end up paying more timeshare fees to transfer your timeshare, and if for some reason the process is not done appropriately, you will still own it.

Certainly, the best thing you can do to know how to get out of a timeshare efficiently is to cancel your timeshare contract.

Fantastic story and you are completely right about timeshares being a waste of money. The sales reps will do anything and everything to get the sale and unfortunately the comment about Stockholm Syndrome is scarily accurate. Timeshares may be right for some people, but the majority should stay FAR away.

I am interested in learning More about the process. My wife and I are sick of paying for this time share that we don't use and won't use. We signed up Two years ago and never used it. When we tried to use it to go to Mexico This past April we found out that going through the Hotel was actually a better price. There is no set place for the time share since you can go to any of their participating Hotels around the world. Please your advice would be greatly apreciated since now we are about to have a baby and can't afford to continue to make the payments with the new addintion

Please stay away from any enticement to attend a presentation at the Grand Miramar Spa & Resort. No matter what they offer you, it isn't worth spending a day of your vacation. I made the big mistake in May this year, of purchasing 2 weeks as it is a beautiful hotel (way up on the hill, so not convenient to town or the beach). After 5-6 hours for the presentation, and being pressured and deceived into believing they could sell my 3 US timeshares for more than I had paid for them, and being offered quite a few champagnes & beer for husband, I said Yes and signed their Contract. They offered me $1600 per week if I did not want to use my unit and $6400 for attending the presentation. You can buy timeshares on-line for pennies on the dollar, or for just taking over maintenance fees as I found out when we returned from our vacation. After reading all the complaints about fraud on-line, I did cancel within the 5 business days allowed by Mexican Law, but they are denying my cancellation and have just put my application/contract "on hold". I have disputed this with my credit card company, but when Mexico wrote and said they would not accept my cancellation, my bank added the amount back to my credit card. I am forced to go to the Mexican Consulate "Profeco", to try to get them to refund several thousand dollars.

Is very annoying to stay aware of the resort that only want to rip off our money , so if you are interested to buy something , pls DO a deep research first , the timeshare resorts contracts are very tricky , so on my own opinion you need to stay away about timeshare field , good luck .

We bought one last year, and after running through all the numbers, fees, etc., we figure that what we’ve bought is a guaranteed 1800 sq ft resort room at about half price. The longer we keep it, the less the “per year” price is going to be, but — and here’s the thing — it’s never going to be for nothing, and too many people think otherwise.

I just think you have to be doing it NOT as any sort of investment but as a discount off vacationing at that place. Too many people think of it as a real estate investment. If you couldn’t afford to vacation at that resort anyway, then you probably aren’t right for that timeshare.
