Many people purchase timeshare travel under the pretension that they will save money in the long run on Cruises, Hotels, airfare or car rentals. Know if these claims of savings are true.

Timeshare Travel

Timeshare Travel is the right to own a week at a certain resort yearly.

Timeshare salespeople often lie to convince potential buyers that they are purchasing a timeshare that will provide them with deep discounts on travel in the long run and the potential for thousands of dollars in profits.

Timeshares are a means of saving money on travel expenses.

Some common timeshare scams claim that the timeshare will allow the client to vacation at much lower rates than if they purchased it online or through a travel agent.

The following research shows that the real cost of timeshare travel is far more than if the client purchased a package vacation online through Expedia, proving that the discounts promised by the salesperson are one example of timeshare fraud.

Please read the following so that you can avoid becoming a victim of this deceitful industry.

Research

We compared the price of using a timeshare week to the price of booking package deals to the same resorts using expedia.com.

We determined the average price of using the timeshare based on actual client information from our database.

The price quotes are based on a party of 2 people, on a weeklong vacation from Los Angeles to the following destinations for the dates of December 4–11, 2010.

Puerto Vallarta

Cancun

mz

As you can see from the chart above, the cost of booking a vacation package on expedia.com is anywhere from 10% to 48% cheaper than booking the same trip directly through the timeshare company.

This chart also does not factor in the opportunity cost for the client.

For example, if a client purchases a $20,000 timeshare, the money is essentially gone, whether the timeshare is legit or not.

At the end of the plan (i.e., 30 years), the client no longer has the right to use the timeshare, and as such, there is no value to the property.

On the other hand, if the client invests the $20,000, that they were going to spend on a timeshare, at 3% interest for 30 years, they will have $48,545.25.

If the client invests wisely in deeded properties or other types of high-return investments, the loss of buying a timeshare vs. purchasing an investment compounds even further.

Statement

By buying a timeshare under the impression you will save money in the long run on travel expenses such as airfare or cruises equals to being a victim of timeshare fraud.

Timeshares will barely provide you a small discount on accommodations and that's it.

Timeshares will not provide you, in most cases, provide with you any discounts on your vacation expenses.

If you have purchased a timeshare based on these fraudulent promises, and are not happy with the value you are receiving for your investment, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Our experienced staff at Mexican Timeshare Solutions will provide you with a free consultation to analyze your situation and let you know upfront if we can cancel your contract and achieve a refund of your hard-earned money.

Timeshares are only a scam if you succumb to a developer’s pitch and buy the wrong property at the wrong price in the wrong network. For some people, like families with small children, I think it can make a lot of sense if done smartly. I love the fact that you and Caroline travel the world staying in nice places on the cheap, but I think it would be significantly more challenging if you had a 4 and 2 year-old in tow. With most systems, buying directly from the developer is a horrible idea. You are better off buying resale from eBay, private owners, or reputable real estate agents who specialize in timeshares.

el verdadero valor creo que es algo dificil de calcular puesto que los gastos de mantenimiento suben cada cierto tiempo, y siempre continuaran creciendo

Unfortunately, most timeshares have little or no resale value, but you may be able to give it away if it’s paid off.

all the promises are nothing but lies, and often not even let you use your weeks!

Timeshare owners don't have any rights. Hell you could buy every unit in the resort, pay in full and be the solo owner without having to share with anyone and you still don't have any rights. The management can charge you what ever maintenance fee they feel like it. There no way to vote them out, appeal, surrender your property. It's the ultimate scam.
Even timeshare that are not total ripoffs are not good deals, the average year maintenance fee is $800 a year, multiply that by 52 deeded weeks in a year, times say 200 units, that's 8 million a year, It does cost no 8 million to run a 200 unit property, lucky if it cost half that with employees, utility and taxes. It's legalize robbery.

I read through your blog, and it is a wealth of information. (Especially for someone as frugal and has such a desire to travel as me :) . As I read through your blogs, I realized that I was not inventing the “frugal” method the timeshare travel, merely following in your footsteps.

My fiance is quitting her job, and I can work from anywhere, so we plan on traveling the US and the world over the next couple of years. Our goal is to visit the top 100 tourist destinations in the US, the top 20 metropolitan areas, all the national parks, and doing some extensive hiking. For parts of our trips, we are hoping to take advantage of the last call vacations through RCI, much the same way you have for years. Do you have any advice on the best approach to utilize timesharing to maximize our travel experiences?

Your blog is great reading. Keep up the good work. Thanks…

Quién dijo que el tiempo compartido era más barato? Es para gente que gusta de las garantías y la calidad y que además tiene la solvencia para adquirirlo. No es para todos, tienen razón, para eso esta expedía.

Owning a timeshare can be a great thing, there is no doubt about this fact. Lots of fabulous vacation opportunities and the ability to travel to many different places are a bonus of ownership, but only if you can afford the cost and the monthly fees associated with a timeshare. The timeshare tour can be enjoyable and very confusing. Offers of gifts, free weekend trips, and more are exciting. But it is when you say “no” the timeshare developer goes into action.
